Jordan Investment Residence: The Arab World's Most Stable Residency Program

Jordan occupies a unique position among Middle Eastern investment residency destinations: it combines genuine political stability (one of the region's most consistent democracies), a diverse urban economy anchored by Amman's tech and medical sectors, and an investment residence program that is procedurally straightforward and well-established.

Investment routes (2026 requirements)

  • Real estate (Amman): JOD 200,000 (~USD 280,000) in registered residential or commercial property within the Municipality of Amman. Permanent residency granted within 3–6 months; property must be retained.
  • Real estate (outside Amman): JOD 100,000 (~USD 140,000). Covers Aqaba, Zarqa, Irbid, and other governorates. Significantly lower threshold than Amman; ideal for investors comfortable with secondary city exposure.
  • Bank deposit: JOD 750,000 (~USD 1.06M) in a Jordanian bank on 3-year fixed term. Most liquid route — deposit is returned with interest after 3 years. Permanent residency within 3 months.
  • Business investment: JOD 150,000 (~USD 210,000) in a registered Jordanian operating company. Business must remain active and employ Jordanians.

Why Jordan for Middle Eastern investors

Jordan appeals to investors from neighbouring countries who want a stable secondary base that is geographically close to their home market. Amman is a 2-hour flight from Riyadh, Beirut, Cairo, and Istanbul, and a direct flight from most GCC cities. The country's large Palestinian, Egyptian, and Syrian expat communities make Amman among the most culturally diverse Arab capitals.

For Lebanese investors specifically, Jordan's combination of a stable currency (the Jordanian Dinar has been pegged to the USD since 1995), a mature banking sector with no restrictions on capital movements, and ease of property ownership has made it the primary regional diversification destination since the 2019 Lebanese banking crisis.

Healthcare and education credentials

Jordan is the Arab world's leading medical tourism destination. King Hussein Medical Center and Specialty Hospital in Amman handle complex cases from across the region. The American University in Amman, German-Jordanian University, and multiple AUB-affiliated institutions provide internationally recognised higher education. For families, the quality of private international schooling in Amman is comparable to Dubai standards at approximately 40% lower cost.

Citizenship pathway

Jordanian citizenship through the standard naturalisation path requires 10 years of legal residence and is at the discretion of the Cabinet. Exceptional investors who make significant contributions to the Jordanian economy may be considered for citizenship via royal decree on an expedited basis — a discretionary pathway without published criteria. Jordan citizenship is a genuinely useful document (Henley rank 84 with 52 destinations) but the program is better evaluated as a long-term residency than a citizenship vehicle.
